Roof Replacement in Bristoe Station - Manassas, VA

Why are so many of our neighbors in Bristoe Station getting their roof replaced?

And why are so many of these roof replacements in Bristoe Station being paid for by the home owner’s insurance – minus the homeowner deductible?

The answer is simple.  The properties have wind and hail damage from recent storms and the homeowners called trusted roof contractors like Wil the Roofer and Keystone Building and Restoration to conduct a complimentary roof inspection and the homeowner determined that by the amount of damage on the roof, that it made sense to file a claim and the insurance company agreed with the damage and approved a full roof replacement, minus the deductible.

Wil the Roofer helps families with roof maintenance in the Bristoe Station neighborhood in Manassas, Virginia.

Wind Damage To Your Roof

Bristoe Station Map

Why do so many homes in this community have wind damage to their roofs?  Its unfortunate, but this community sits in a wind tunnel.  The strong winds race down Confederate Trail and there is a lot of space on each side of the street and each court acts like its own wind tunnel which creates an opportunity for wind to churn and damage the roof.  Pair that with the fact that the original shingles on this roof are the older style 3-Tab shingles with a wind resistance of about 60mph, and you have the perfect storm for missing shingles and creased shingles.  Call Wil the Roofer and Keystone Building and Restoration today to schedule your free roof inspection to check the integrity of your roof.

Hey Mr. Flowers,

How is your day going?

Once you return and when you have time, I’ll bring by some shingle samples for you and your wife to view. To help tie you over until then, I’ve put this page together to display a different color shingles on few properties that I have been fortunate enough to serve some of the families in our community by replacing their roof.

The existing shingle system on your roof is a 3-Tab shingle, which has a 25 year life span and a wind resistance of around 60 mph, meaning that once we start to see winds around 60 mph, then they can become unsealed and potentially creases, which is what happened on your roof. This is what the insurance company is paying to replace with.

We’ll be giving you a free upgrade to a 50 year architectural shingle. The GAF Timberline HDZ, is one of the best shingles on the market. It comes with a wind resistance of over 200 mph and it is a strong and durable shingle, not to mention it looks a lot better.

As always, thank you for the opportunity to serve you and your family.

What Are Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (S-RECs)?

A Solar Renewable Energy Certificate is a “certificate” that shows that a certain amount of electricity was generated by renewable sources.

One S-REC is created every time a qualifying renewable energy facility generates 1 megawatt-hour of electricity. Grid-tied home solar systems are classified as qualifying renewable energy facilities, which means solar owners earn S-RECs simply by producing their own electricity. S-RECs generated by solar photovoltaic systems are referred to as Solar RECs (SRECs).

S-RECs have monetary value and can be bought and sold on an open marketplace.

How Much Do You Earn Selling SRECs?

S-RECs in Virginia are currently worth about $56 each (though the market value fluctuates) and are sold on a quarterly basis. To determine how much you will earn per quarter with SRECs, multiply the number of SRECs your system produced in the quarter by the current market value.

Let’s look at an example. Suppose your system produced 4 megawatt-hours (4,000 kWh) of electricity this quarter. Four megawatts multiplied by the current SREC market value ($56) equals $224. Your aggregator will take a fee (Knollwood Energy takes a fee of $5 per REC) and write you a check for the remaining amount, in this case, $224.

By selling your S-RECs, you’ll receive four checks a year.

Install Solar and Start Earning Solar Renewable Energy Credits!

Selling S-RECs is just one of the many financial benefits of solar panels. With a home solar system, you’ll also be able to reduce your electricity bills, participate in additional solar incentive programs like net metering, and qualify for the 30% federal solar tax credit. Plus, you’ll be using clean, renewable energy that’s good for the environment and reduces your reliance on fossil fuels.

Wil the Roofer has partnered with Powur to help fulfill the growing demand for Solar Energy Independence, in Virginia and Maryland. Powur is one of the the leading solar installation companies in Virginia and Maryland. We’ve been in business for years and have installed thousands of solar energy systems across the nation. Our expert team can tell you more about solar incentives like SRECs and help you decide whether solar panels make sense for your home.

Roof Replacement in Gainesville, VA

Recently, the crew and I were wrapping up two full roof replacements in Gainesville.  Both of these homeowners sustained substantial wind and hail damage.  They contracted me for a free roof inspection and received their complementary roof report, which was submitted to their home owner’s insurance company  and their respective homeowner’s insurance companies agreed with the findings in the free roof report and paid to replace their entire roof as well as gutters, minus the deductible.

We were nearing the celebration time of day where part of our subcontracting crew are on the roof and some of the guys have come down to begin the clean up procedure.  This is also the time when the homeowners come outside and we stand next to each other and just look at the new roof as if we (the homeowners and I) did a wonderful job putting those new GAF Timberline HDZ shingles on the roof and we’re shaking hands and high fiving each other and congratulating each other on a job well done.  It’s a small celebration.

Why Did I Choose Keystone Building and Restoration

It was around this time that the wife asked me “Wil, out of all of the roofing companies that you could have worked with, why did you go with Keystone Building and Restoration, based out of Maryland; when you live here in Virginia?”  I instantly replied and let her know that it was a no brainer.  “Two reasons”, I said.  First, George Milev, the owner, is puts his homeowners and customers first.  You guys pay our bills.

We never want to lose sight of that or take it for granted that you chose us and trusted Keystone Building and Restoration and Wil the Roofer, with replacing the roof and shingles on one of your most valuable possessions…your home.  As you mentioned, there are a ton of other roofing companies in this area and we recognize that.  And it is with this mindset that we treat every roof replacement like it is our first roof replacement and we do our best every time.

The second reason that I decided to work with Keystone Building and Restoration and not the other local roofing contractors in my area is because Keystone promotes self improvement and personal development and provides an opportunity to grow in the company and within the industry.  Which brings me to the reason of this post.

From Approving Roofs to Replacing Roofs

About a year ago, I had the opportunity to speak with my great friend – Rick, about the Keystone Opportunity.  Rick has been an ambitious go getter as long as I’ve known him and we met in 2007, when my family and I moved into our new home in Gainesville, VA.  Rick and his family lived directly across the street and they were the very first people on to greet us and welcome us to the new neighborhood.  They’ve since moved, but we remained in touch over the years and last year, when I spoke with him about Keystone, the timing could not have been better.  He had just left a position as an insurance adjuster with a well known insurance company and he was looking for his next move.  It only made sense that he came on board and he had an immediate impact.  Rick was able to take his knowledge of adjusting and what to look for when trying to get a roof replaced or siding replace and approved by the home owners insurance company, versus just having repairs approved or total denial of the claim all together.  He helped all of us at Keystone Building and Restoration to become better and was able to help many more homeowners to get their full roof replacement paid for by the insurance company.  Which brings us to today.

Replacing Roofs in Mansfield, TX

When Rick came on board, he was very honest and transparent.  He let us know that he would be moving to Texas at the end of the Summer, 2022 and that he would give us all that he had until that time.  My, how time flies when fun is being had!  It is the end of the Summer and Rick today, Rick is relocating his family to Mansfield, TX where he will be the founder and owner of Matrix Roofing and Solar.  As a friend and as a teammate, I could not be more proud and more happy for him.  I know that both, He and Matrix Roofing and Solar will be an immediate success in The Lone State.  Rick has served our beautiful country when he was jumping out of air planes as a member of The United States Marine Corps.  He has served our community, not only in roofing but with other businesses that he has owned in the past… Veterans Printing, which was a print shop.  A communications direct marketing business for an international communications firm.  A dump truck company.  This man stays busy and has had tremendous success in business as well as in his marriage of 20+ years and raising two very successful young men in their own right.  I know that he will continue to bring value to the lives of the communities that he will assist in Texas and that will translate into continuing to help our country to be a stronger nation.

Rick, thank you for your service to our country and to our community.  Continue to plant seeds of success and friendship everywhere that you go.  Know that you will always have a home with Wil the Roofer.

While we wish Rick the best of everything as he begins to write his next chapter of life down in Texas; there are hundreds and thousands of families right here in the DMV who need their custom roof report to help represent them to the insurance companies so they can get their roof replacements approved.

The more time that I invest in this industry, the more I feel that this is a call to service and not just an opportunity to generate income.

One recent example occurred in March of 2022 when my teammate Rick and I were called to Pearsons Landing neighborhood in Woodbridge, VA to conduct a free roof inspection and generate a custom roof report for Mr. Jacobs, an 84 year old Retired Army Veteran.

Roof Replacement is Relationship Based Not Transaction Based

We did not know Mr. Jacobs, prior to this meeting him for the initial roof inspection at his home in Woodbridge, VA.  He was referred to us by his neighbor, Ms. Regina.  Regina and Rick have been friends for years and Mr. Jacobs; had brought it to Regina’s attention that he needs to have his roof replaced because he has a leak that is causing damage to his bedroom ceiling and master bathroom ceiling.

He went on to say that he had a local roof contractor come out to inspect his roof and give him a free quote on repairing his roof as well as replacing his roof.  That quote came out to be around $24,000.

Upon learning of this; Regina immediately called Rick and told him/us about Mr. Jacob’s roof and ceiling situation.  We called Mr. Jacobs and scheduled an appointment to visit with him and schedule his roof inspection and begin the process of putting together his free roof report.

Thankfully, because of the relationship between Rick and Regina as well as Regina and Mr. Jacobs, we were able to go into action and serve Mr. Jacobs and his family.

Roof Inspection Time in Pearsons Landing, Woodbridge VA

It was an early Tuesday morning…about 8:30; when Rick and I arrived to Mr. Jacob’s home in the Pearsons Landing neighborhood in Woodbridge, VA to meet him and inspect his roof.  Rick served 12 years in the United States Marine Corps (Devil Dog…Once a Marine, Always a Marine) so he and Mr. Jacobs immediately hit it off.  There is a certain camaraderie that I have always admired when I have the pleasure to observe those who have served.  A brotherhood that bonds and unites.  While they talked and told jokes, I pulled out the drone and started to fly it above Mr. Jacob’s roof and begin the inspection.  I was able to observe a lot of damage on the front slope; however, minimal damage on the rear slope.  While I flew the drone, Rick inspected the damage to the ceiling on the interior.

Free Roof Report in Woodbridge, VA

Once the inspection of both, the roof and the interior were complete, I took pictures of the different elevations of the property to complete the information gathering for the free roof report.  Mr. Jacobs explained that he did attempt to go through insurance; however the claim only covered repairs on the roof and not a full roof replacement.  As we went over the report and recalled the events from the inspection, Rick – who spent a number of years as a claims adjuster for an insurance company; agreed with the decision of the insurance company and did not see a need to fight it.  This decision was based on the amount of damage to the roof.

We were able to put together a quote for Mr. Jacobs far less than the other roof contractor with superior material.  The price for Mr. Jacob’s new roof including an upgrade to 6 inch gutters and 6 inch gutter guards and 6 inch downspouts was $13,000 and he was able to finance for less than $130/mo.

Custom Roof Report and Free Inspection

There are thousands of people who live in the DMV (District, Maryland and Virginia) area who have damage to their roof and they do not know where to turn.  There are hundreds of roof contractors who want to get your business, but it is hard to determine which are the good companies and with a roof, you do not find out until it is too late.

Replacing your roof should be a once…maybe twice in a lifetime investment to your home…one of your most important assets.  Take your time to do your research and it begins with a custom roof report and free inspection by proven companies.

I am honored to be on the Keystone Building and Restoration team.  The company invests in its people – myself included with training and resources to help us do the best possible job for you – the homeowners of our area and help to ensure that your roof replacement is a painless and enjoyable experience and that you become a raving fan who is excited to refer Wil the Roofer and Keystone Building and Restoration to your friends and family.
